Ten Reasons to join Durham Sixth Form...
We work exclusively with your age group.
Is independence important to you? At 16 and 17 years old you have a choice of where you want to study. You don’t have to stay at your 11-16 or 11-18 school. At Durham Sixth Form Centre, you’ll be with like minded people of the same age, who want to work hard, do well and get on in life. We’re a tight-knit community of 1000 students who, with the help of your teachers, set high standards and aspire to achieve them.
We’ll put you first.
It’s your life, your future, so we’ll help you put together a programme of study that gets you where you want to go. At every stage we’re here to listen, advise and support you in your choices. You can talk through your options and ambitions at our open evenings or open days as well as at your one-to-one meeting with your Leader of Learning.
We’ll give you more choice.
We offer the most extensive range of A Levels in the area – 40 subjects in all – as well as BTEC qualifications, GCSE’s and other Level 3 courses. That means you will have more choice. At your interview, we’ll discuss your plans and aspirations and put together a programme of study to suit you.
We get results.
Our students have an excellent record of success; they work hard to achieve it. In our recent Ofsted Inspection our students, teachers and parents were congratulated by saying, ‘student achievement is good with results are above the National Average’.
We’re easy to get to.
Durham Sixth Form Centre is right in the middle of Durham City Centre. We are a couple of minutes walk from both the bus station and the railway station. We are next to Freemans Quay, the Gala Theatre and the planned Freemans Reach. Our students enjoy having all of the city centre facilities, shops, restaurants, the city library, cinema and theatre on our doorstep.
We’ll help you develop your gifts and talents.
If, like many of our students, you have been identified as gifted and talented we’ll work with you through our Honours Programme, our special programme designed to help you make the most of your ability.
We’ll support you whatever your needs.
All of our students are assigned a tutor and Leader of Learning. They are there to help. We don’t want anything to come between you and your ambitions. If you’re having trouble managing your time, need guidance on writing an essay or with your revision, or you’re dealing with dyslexia or any other learning difficulty, you’ll get the right support.
We’ll offer you Award winning Careers Information Advice and Guidance.
At Durham Sixth Form Centre we see ourselves as a stepping stone between school and university, employment or further training. We will help you achieve and realise your ambitions. We will support you in preparing for university or employment and help you get to where you want to be.
We offer you a rich, fulfilling student life.
Our enrichment programme provides opportunities to try new things, take existing skills and interests further and meet new people – all great preparation for university or life after sixth form. You can take part in visits in the UK and overseas, or in activities related to your studies. You can join our Social Committee, Charities Committee, Sports and Arts Committees or debating teams to name but a few.
We’ll give you financial support.
We know how difficult it can be to make ends meet. We offer our students financial support, up to £1,200 through our student bursaries and all of our full-time students receive up to £250 in Year 12 to support them through their studies. Talk to our recruitment team who will give you more information.
