Durham Sixth Form Centre

Celebrating a Century of Success...

Student Support...

Tutor Support Programme

As a student at Durham Sixth Form Centre you will have a Form Tutor who you will meet every week and will be your first point of contact for support.

You will also have a Leader of Learning who, in conjunction with your Form Tutor, will guide you throughout your time here providing help with important issues and will monitor your attendance and academic progress closely to ensure that you are maximising your full potential.

We also have a valuable programme of tutorial support which is scheduled every Wednesday where you will have access to individual mentoring, a wide range of services, events and visiting speakers.

This Tutor Support Programme aims to mentor you through the difficult transition from secondary school to either Higher Education or the world of work, focusing on academic, personal and social development.

You will have the opportunity to reflect upon your progress, set clear targets for improvement, attend subject specific booster sessions and receive high quality information, advice and guidance from our award winning careers department.

Attendance

If you are absent you must contact us immediately with the reason for this absence. You can get in touch by telephone on or by email .

On return to college you must complete an illness form, stating the reason for absence and return to the Attendance Officer.

If this absence is more than 5 days in length the illness form must also be accompanied by a parental note.

We do not want our students to fall behind with their studies therefore we expect you to speak to your teachers on return to college and make every effort to catch up on any missed work.

As I am sure you will appreciate good attendance at the Sixth Form Centre is vitally important.  Our courses are demanding and absence will inevitably lead to you missing vital work and perhaps falling behind with your studies. If your attendance becomes a cause for concern we will have to contact your parents and formally monitor your progress.

In the most serious of cases this could lead to you being asked to leave the Sixth Form Centre.

However, if there are genuine issues that are stopping you from attending college, help is at hand. Just contact your Pastoral Leader of Learning for advice and support.

Please note, should you wish time off college for a holiday, funeral, university open day and the like, an appropriate Holiday or Leave of Absence form must be completed and permission sought from your Pastoral Leader of Learning.
